The Australian government is committed to allowing Australian Citizens and Permanent Residents, bring their immediate family members to live permanently in Australia. There are a variety of visa options that allow family members to migrate:
- Partner Visas – (Subclass 309, Subclass 100, Subclass 801, Subclass 820) (both onshore and offshore)
- Prospective Marriage Visas – (Subclass 300)
- Parent Visas – (Subclass 103, Subclass 143, Subclass 870, Subclass 173)
- Aged-Parent Visas – (Subclass 804)
The potential for success of these visa applications is based on the nature of the relationship with the Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident, as that person will become the sponsor of their relative for the purpose of the application.
The evidence that needs to be provided will vary depending on the visa application; however, the applicant must be able to prove the relationship between the Australian sponsor. The applicant will also be required to meet the general health and character criteria. In some cases, the sponsor may need to provide an Assurance of Support (AoS) to the Australian Government.
